Honored to be part of Making WordPress

As a Release Coordinator for the WordPress software it never occurred to me that I might be listed in the credits for both WordPress 6.9 and 7.0 as a noteworthy contributor until I saw it last week. Kind of silly, but I just never really thought very much about being given credit.

What I thought about was: did I do a good job coordinating, how can I do better next time, how can I help to better set up future coordinators for success, what can we do to improve processes, workflows and documentation, what should be timed differently, how much I secretly love writing release haikus, how rewarding it has been to collaborate with the Core team full of highly skilled, intelligent, hard working, dedicated professionals, and of course about how fun release parties are!

I especially loved the energy folks brought to the final 7.0 release party and I can not wait to see more of that! I know some of you on my feed were there – bring it for 7.1!! 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥 🔥

If I linked every post and party I facilitated for the 7.0 release it would be a fairly long list. (Think release party sched, beta 1-5, RC1-5, calls for testing, final post, field guide, etc etc.) So I’ll just give my top two:

Working on the field guide takes a lot of work and cross-collaboration but has been one of my favorite parts of the release cycle for both 6.9 and 7.0. I enjoy this personally bc I am technical, love writing, and my extroverted self loves working with teammates. Check out the technical specs for WP 7.0 here.

Writing the final announcement post for WordPress 7.0 was an absolute challenge, as I am not a marketer and by this point in the cycle I had already used all the catchy ways to say it in previous announcements. I am so appreciative of my colleagues (other contributors) and of Automattic’s designers that helped me make it happen.

It has been amazing working with contributors from across the globe, with WordPress.org and with Automattic staff on WordPress software releases.

Thank you to Elementor for sponsoring my contributions to WordPress and enabling me to contribute to 7.0!

I am so honored to be part of Making WordPress. <3
