Wth: Recurring pre-camp problems

Why do “bad” things keep happening to me before I go to WordCamps?

“Bad” is in quotes because in my spiritual practice it is believed there are no bad things. Everything shapes you, redirects you, and shoves you further along on your path. But still… wth.

Right before I left for WCAsia ‘26 there was a fire in my apartment, which obviously was horrible and subsequently displaced us for months, and also caused me a giant administrative nightmare and a ton of extra expenses.

Today right before WCUS ‘26, one day before we are supposed to drive from LA to Phoenix, I get up and go to my car to discover that my catalytic converter was stolen. Screws on the ground, etc.

I heard a sawwing sound last night and it woke me up. I went and looked out the window and saw a car pulling out of my driveway and thought, did my catalytic converter just get stolen? Looked at my car and it seemed normal. So I thought “huh” and went back to sleep. Then in the morning I tried to drive and confirmed that yes, yes it was. It’s a good thing I was half asleep and thus did not go outside to confront them bc I would 100% do that, and probably get shot.

So honestly, what is this? Am I manifesting this as some sort of self sabotage? Is the universe telling me not to go? Or are we just character building right before every WordCamp now?

Because for real, for really real, what the hellllllllllllllllioso
